Home makeover almost complete
When it was first announced, Playstation Home was pretty ambitious. We were told that we’ll get a home public beta in July 2007. It is now January 2008 and we still don’t have any idea when home is coming…yet.
Well, good news fans, Playstation Home is coming…sometime in spring. That’s according to the people at Gameindustry as they report from the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. Apparently, thanks to the private beta feedback of users, Sony has been continuously making changes to Home in order to get it to suit for what it sets out to do, which is instill a sense of community. Thanks to the feedback, Home had been getting quite a bit of changes lately, and with a Spring 08 public beta release, there could be more changes in store.
What are some changes to Home so far?
What had been an enclosed room with a large window showing a lush view has now been transformed into a serene outside space, with plenty of room for people to interact, and tables with fully functional chess and draughts games included.
Additionally the entrance points to key content areas - the Theatre and the Bowling Alley - have been redesigned so that they’re much more recognisable.
The Theatre itself, while retaining the same functionality, has had all of the screening areas moved down to the ground floor, after feedback from users that the 12 second walk to go upstairs took too long.
Venables and Festejo also revealed that it was now possible to take your avatar out onto a balcony from your own apartment, and that there would be “around eight or nine” different apartments available at launch, although no new details on potential pricing options for the premium apartments were available.
I can’t wait for Home. I don’t know if it’ll succeed or not, but at least the idea behind it is pretty awesome.
