The PS3’s cell processor has once again been given the job of powering a super computer, this time in the new Road Runner super computer. It doesn’t do the job alone however, there are 6,948 dual-core AMD Opteron chips and 12,960 Cell engines. Yeah, it’s a beast. Its speeds surpass a petraflop, and would take 100,000 of todays fastest laptops to equal it. I remember when I first saw a story about this on Fox News. My first though immediately jumped to the PS3’s Cell. Guess I was right.
